How to Measure a Room for Skirting Boards
Measuring correctly ensures you order the right amount of MDF skirting boards for your project.
Step 1: Measure Each Wall
Use a tape measure to measure the length of each wall where skirting boards will be installed.
Step 2: Add the Measurements Together
Add all wall measurements together to get the total length required.
Example:
| Wall | Length |
|---|---|
| Wall 1 | 4.2 m |
| Wall 2 | 3.6 m |
| Wall 3 | 4.2 m |
| Wall 4 | 3.6 m |
Total = 15.6 metres
Step 3: Add Extra for Waste
It is recommended to add 10–15% extra to allow for cutting and mitre joints.
Step 4: Calculate Number of Boards
If boards are supplied in 3050 mm or 4200 mm lengths, divide the total measurement by the board length to determine how many pieces are required.
Ordering slightly more than needed helps avoid delays during installation.
